Latest developer tools on Raspberry Pi OS

63 developer tools at their latest upstream versions, one apt command, GPG-signed

⚑ The short answer. Yes, deb.griffo.io works on Raspberry Pi OS. 63 developer tools install with plain apt on Raspberry Pi OS (Trixie) and Raspberry Pi OS (Bookworm), with the same setup command as Debian and Ubuntu: it reads VERSION_CODENAME from /etc/os-release and asks for the matching suite, trixie on Raspberry Pi OS (Trixie).

Raspberry Pi OS is Debian for the Raspberry Pi, and its archive carries the developer tools of the Debian release it is built on, frozen at that release. Upstream projects rarely publish .deb files for ARM at all. deb.griffo.io builds arm64 packages for most of the tools below, and armhf packages for many, so they install on a Pi with plain apt.

πŸ” Which suite your release gets

ReleaseBuilt onSuiteTools available
Raspberry Pi OS (Trixie)Debian 13 β€œTrixie”trixie63
Raspberry Pi OS (Bookworm)Debian 12 β€œBookworm”bookworm61

A Raspberry Pi 3, 4, 5 or Zero 2 W running the 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS uses arm64, which this repository covers most widely. The 32-bit image uses armhf, which fewer tools are built for. Run dpkg --print-architecture to see which one you have. The table below says which tools exist for each.

πŸ“¦ Add the repository

Step 1: Add the repository & key

Run the commands
sudo install -d -m 0755 /etc/apt/keyrings
curl -fsSL https://deb.griffo.io/EA0F721D231FDD3A0A17B9AC7808B4DD62C41256.asc | sudo gpg --dearmor --yes -o /etc/apt/keyrings/deb.griffo.io.gpg
echo "deb [signed-by=/etc/apt/keyrings/deb.griffo.io.gpg] https://deb.griffo.io/apt $(. /etc/os-release; echo ${DEBIAN_CODENAME:-${UBUNTU_CODENAME:-$VERSION_CODENAME}}) main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/deb.griffo.io.list > /dev/null
sudo apt update
install -d -m 0755 /etc/apt/keyrings
curl -fsSL https://deb.griffo.io/EA0F721D231FDD3A0A17B9AC7808B4DD62C41256.asc | gpg --dearmor --yes -o /etc/apt/keyrings/deb.griffo.io.gpg
echo "deb [signed-by=/etc/apt/keyrings/deb.griffo.io.gpg] https://deb.griffo.io/apt $(. /etc/os-release; echo ${DEBIAN_CODENAME:-${UBUNTU_CODENAME:-$VERSION_CODENAME}}) main" | tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/deb.griffo.io.list > /dev/null
apt update

πŸ†“ There is an always-free mirror. deb-free.griffo.io serves packages free forever, no account, no subscription, at most 2 months behind upstream, security fixes immediately. It currently carries cliamp, Ghostty, lazydocker, Oh My Posh, Uncloud and Zed; any other tool can be enrolled on request.

How the free mirror works β†’

Step 2: Install any tool

sudo apt install -y neovim ripgrep fzf
apt install -y neovim ripgrep fzf

To check what the command will pick on your machine before running it: . /etc/os-release; echo ${DEBIAN_CODENAME:-${UBUNTU_CODENAME:-$VERSION_CODENAME}}. It should print one of the suites in the table above.

πŸ“‹ Every tool available on Raspberry Pi OS

Versions are what the repository serves for trixie right now (updated 2026-10-19). A tick under an architecture means the tool is built for it; the version is the same on each.

❓ Common questions

Which Raspberry Pi models are supported?

Any Pi running the 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS (arm64), which covers the Pi 3, 4, 5, 400, 500 and Zero 2 W. The 32-bit image (armhf) also works, for the tools built for armhf. The original Pi Zero and Pi 1 use armv6, which no package here is built for.

Is 64-bit or 32-bit Raspberry Pi OS better for this?

64-bit. Every tool here that runs on ARM is built for arm64, and only some of them for armhf.

Is deb.griffo.io an official Raspberry Pi OS repository?

No. It is an unofficial repository maintained by Dario Griffo, not affiliated with Raspberry Pi OS. Every package is built automatically from the official upstream release, the packaging is open source on GitHub, and the archive is GPG-signed.

Does it cost anything?

The repository is a subscription (€15 a year or €150 once) with a free trial. A free mirror, deb-free.griffo.io, serves a smaller set of tools at a delay, with the same setup on this distro.

How do I remove the repository?

Delete /etc/apt/sources.list.d/deb.griffo.io.list and /etc/apt/keyrings/deb.griffo.io.gpg, then run sudo apt update. Tools you installed stay until you apt remove them.
